The Site

This site is to explore and share ideas on structural engineering and sustainable design, from a structural engineering perspective.    Some topics are intended for the general audience of owners, designers and builders, including owner-builders, while other topics may be more technical and intended for practitioners and students of structural design.

The Author:  Scott E. Breneman, PhD, PE. 

Scott Breneman is a licensed professional engineer working as a consulting engineering in the structural design of buildings.  He has over   16 years of engineering and technical experience covering structural engineering, project management, technical marketing and sustainable design.   His structural design experience is primarily in building design, evaluation and rehabilitation and encompasses custom and multi-family homes, commercial, university and hospital projects.   He has worked on new design with wood, steel, masonry and concrete, as wells as alternative building systems such as structural insulated panels (SIPs) and traditional timber frame design.

Dr. Breneman is a licensed P.E. (Civil) in California, received a Ph.D. from Stanford University in Civil and Environmental Engineering, and earned a Masters and Bachelors of Engineering from University of Florida.  Dr. Breneman is an accredited “Green Associate” in the USGBC LEED AP program and is actively involved in the Structural Engineering Association of California (SEAOC) and the Central Chapter of the Sustainable Design Committee of SEAOC.
